Layers and booties

You'll be seeing this from me a lot in the near future. It's easy and cozy to layer a cardigan over a decorative tank for work.

Fashion Through the Decades

The sun was still ablaze as I stepped foot on to the intimate rooftop deck of The Residence at South Park.  I immediately began making my way to the refreshment table for a glass of wine, when I paused to compliment a woman on her beautiful lace top.  “Thank you,” she said “it was my grandmothers.”  Vintage.  Fitting, seeing as that evenings show, appropriately titled “Decades,” featured timeless looks from two of Charlotte’s renowned vintage boutiques- Kyrstina’sTreasures, and Reaching For the Stars Vintage

“So how is it you came to be here tonight?” I asked Jolina, intrigued not only by her savvy vintage threads, but also by the fact that this was an exclusive “invite only” affair.  After telling her story, I was introduced to her husband and mother-in-law, and we took a stroll over to a shady spot on the other side of the pool to admire the beautiful view of the Charlotte skyline.  It wasn’t long till Christie arrived after being stuck in the admittedly HORRIBLE rush-hour traffic…and wouldn’t you know it, she already knew Jolina! Not surprising, I swear Christie knows everybody!  After they had a chance to catch up we made our way around to meet and greet with other guests.

It wasn’t long before the show was ready to begin! We made our way to our, ahem, front row seats, and settled in for our journey through the Decades.

Siobon, owner of Krystina’s Treasures, introduced herself and told the audience a bit about the quality and care of her collection. Many pieces, it turns out, were owned personally by her mother Krystina, whom her boutique is named for.

She started off showing us a beautiful dress from the 1920’s, describing in detail the fashion of the era, and the reasons behind it.

We then saw pieces from the 30’s, and 40’s – including this GORGEOUS green suit, which I bought after the show!!!

(Adorable vintage suit!!!)

We bounced right along into the 50’s with some Rat-Pack style, and more amazing swimsuits and dresses.

The show passed over to Reaching for the Stars Vintage, for a glimpse of some of the owner’s favorite pieces, all carrying a black and white theme.  After which, the show passed back to Krystina’s Treasures to continue the journey from the 50’s up to the 80’s.  Then bounced back to Reaching for the Star’s Vintage again, to showcase some beautiful summer style vintage in numerous textures and colors.

Here is  small “vine” video clip!!

The finale of the show was a stunning wedding gown from Krystina’s Treasures.  Siobon described how the gown had been yellowed and faded over time, but had been brought back to life through her special treatment and care.  The billowing skirt has enough fabric to create a full circle around a blushing bride when sitting down, for one of those classic overhead wedding portraits.  The elegance, and grace captured in this gown is simply unparalleled – proven by the “ooh’s” and “ahh’s” emitted by the audience.

Once the show came to a close, the audience was invited to browse, not only the collections from the runway, but other one-of-a-kind pieces for sale from the featured Boutiques.  Here are some of the amazing jewelry pieces that were featured on the models.

As we finally made our way down to the lobby, we couldn’t help but pick favorite outfits and talk about what decade we wished we lived in…the timeless twenties, fabulous fifties, eccentric eighties….which is yours??
